孩子英语好就万事大吉？在新加坡读国际初中那年，我才读懂‘学术英语’四个字的重量

说实话，2023年9月送儿子进新加坡Northlight School附属国际初中时，我真觉得‘英语好=能跟上’——毕竟他剑桥KET考了卓越（140分），日常聊天能聊《哈利·波特》剧情。

结果开学第二周，科学课作业是写一篇‘Compare photosynthesis and cellular respiration’的对比短文。他憋了三小时，交上来只有67个词，还把‘mitochondria’拼成‘mitchondria’……老师批注：‘语言准确度不足，无法支撑学科思维表达’。

我当时特慌——不是怕他不会说，是第一次意识到：日常英语像自行车，学术英语像航天器控制台，按键一样，但每个键背后都连着逻辑链。

坑点就在这儿：新加坡所有国际初中不教语法基础，只默认学生已掌握学术词汇与论证结构。我查了校方课程说明（2024年更新版），明确写着：‘All writing tasks assume prior familiarity with discipline-specific lexis and cohesive devices.’（所有写作任务均预设学生已熟悉学科专有词汇与衔接手段）。

更扎心的是：2023年11月家长会上，英文老师直接问我：‘Does he use academic phrases like “in contrast”, “this suggests that”, or “a plausible explanation is…” in his oral responses?’ 我哑口无言——他连‘plausible’都没背过。

后来我们咬牙买了新加坡教育部认证的ACE Learning Platform（每月SGD 42），重点练‘subject-verb agreement in data description’和‘hedging language for science reports’。三个月后，他终于在生物小论文里写出‘Although the sample size was limited, the trend appears statistically significant’——那一刻，比他考满分还让我想哭。

现在回头看：英语好不是入场券，而是入场前的体检报告；而学术英语能力，才是你在新加坡国际初中真正能呼吸的空气。
